Free events at MiraCosta College to mark Year of the Dragon

Gotta love free events. Are you planning to go to any of these?

OCEANSIDE — MiraCosta College is holding free community events Jan. 27 to Feb. 7 to herald in the Year of the Dragon, considered by some to be the luckiest in a 12-year cycle.

•Alternative Healing and Energy Healing Workshop: Dan Haun, licensed acupuncturist, and Fay McGrew, certified qigong instructor, teach how to improve your health and well-being noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 31 in the MiraCosta College Student Center (Bldg. 3400), Room Aztlan A, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside.

•Chinese Knot Workshop: Learn how to make Chinese traditional decorative knots and sample Chinese snacks 4:30-5:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the MiraCosta College Student Center (Bldg. 3400), Room Aztlan A, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Hosted by the college’s Chinese Club; limited to 30 participants.

•Chinese Film: “Shaolin” (China 2011), an award-winning film that looks at recent Chinese history, will be shown as part of MiraCosta’s International Film Series 1 p.m. Feb. 3 in Room 204 at the MiraCosta College San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff; and 7 p.m. in Room 3601 at the MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive.

•Lantern Festival: Traditional Chinese music and food 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at the MiraCosta College Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Avenue, Oceanside.
